Thank you so much for volunteering to help make Dixie Canyon the amazing school that it is!
We offer several different types and levels of volunteer opportunities! If you'd like to volunteer on campus or as a chaperone for a field trip, you must meet the requirements below for the appropriate tier and be approved through the District EVERY YEAR. The process is fairly quick and easy.
THE APPLICATION WINDOW FOR THE '24-'25 SCHOOL YEAR IS NOW OPEN HERE!
ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST RE-APPLY EVERY YEAR, EVEN IF YOU WERE PREVIOUSLY APPROVED.
If you are unable to complete these requirements and/or would like to volunteer from home, please reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator, Carissa Larsen, to see what opportunities are available to you!
Tier I Volunteers - THIS TIER IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR THE '24-'25 SCHOOL YEAR. ALL IN-SCHOOL AND FIELD TRIP VOLUNTEERS MUST BE APPROVED AS A TIER II OR TIER III VOLUNTEER.
Tier II Volunteers plan to volunteer on campus, in the classroom, in the office, in the Parent and Family Center, as a Room Parent (helping on campus) and/or as a field trip chaperone. Choose this option to help with the various PTA events.
- Go to https://www.lausd.org/volunteer to start the application process.
- Select whether you will serve as a Virtual or On-Campus Volunteer and select the location you will serve. Please note, if you plan to volunteer at multiple schools, you will need to complete the process for each school.
- Print and sign the following
- Provide TB Clearance (for volunteering with students only). TB Tests can be taken at your doctor's office or your local pharmacy, such as CVS or Walgreens. There may or may not be charges for your TB Test (please call your selected provider to confirm).
- Please note: TB tests must be submitted within 60 days or LESS of being tested. Once approved, TB tests are valid this volunteer process for 4 years. A positive TB skin test requires a chest x-ray as a follow up precaution and can be requested and/or completed by your doctor. If the chest x-ray is negative, you will receive clearance. If you are unable to provide this, you may volunteer from home only.
- Please keep in mind, once you've submitted all of the above, it could take 2-3 weeks for approval (longer at the start of the instructional school year). If you haven't received approval after 3 weeks, call the Main Office (818-784-6283) to follow up. If they inform you that the status shows as "Pending", please follow up with Parent and Community Engagement (PACE - 818-654-3608).
Tier III Volunteers plan to help with on-on-one tutoring, the cafeteria, student activities, and/or as an overnight field trip chaperone.
- Complete all Tier II requirements above AND
- Provide Fingerprint Clearance by completing the online form for fingerprinting and set an appointment to have your fingerprints scanned (the nearest location to scan your fingerprints is at the Postal Annex - 13535 Ventura Blvd, Ste C., next to Starbucks). You will be required to view a 5 minute video prior to completing the form. There is no charge for fingerprinting.
- Please keep in mind, once you've submitted all of the above, Tier III approval could take more than 2-3 weeks for approval. If you haven't received approval after 1 month, call the Main Office (818-784-6283) to follow up. If they inform you that the status shows as "Pending", please follow up with Parent and Community Engagement (PACE - 818-654-3608).
